Mabel Child

I first met the lovely Uzma of Mabel Child at Babyccino’s ShopUp last summer, with Tabitha. I was immediately drawn to her stand (as was Tabs – the lure of a the Mailegs proved impossible to resist…), as it pretty much represented everything I love in baby and kids clothes and accessories.

Mabel Child is the beautiful UK based online boutique, inspired by fairy tales and all things vintage – unique children’s clothing, accessories, toys and décor, all sharing the same gorgeous sense of nostalgia. I love the colour palette, and style of pretty much every piece (some of which I have included above), and also the vintage feel they all share. If you don’t already know this site, trust me, you’re going to love it all! Some of the brands you will already know (Louse Misha, Caramel, Maileg…), and others you may not ( As We Grow, Poudre Organic, Hubble & Duke…), so it’s a great place for discovering new, smaller, independent brands for your little ones.
It’s the creation of mama of three, and fashion designer Uzma, whose selects are designed to make little ones feel special and beautiful. It almost feels like you’re (online) browsing in a beautiful children’s vintage store. The site itself has an almost homespun, whimsical feel about it, which simply adds to the overall charm.

Uzma established Mabel Child in the summer of 2016 and has gradually grown the number of brands she works with and her customer base. “We’re an online children’s boutique, ranging from baby up to eight years and our clothes are a mixture of traditional and whimsical designs. Good quality fabric which will last is important to me. With three girls I like to be confident that the garments can be passed down. I don’t like the throw away culture so quality, affordable and stylish are my three main considerations when selecting items for Mabel Child. We’ve just started working with Jamie Kay which has very reasonably priced items. We also like to include items for special occasions which are a little more expensive. Caramel Child is my favourite British brand. Their style is very classic, simple and so stylish, and the clothing is cut well and excellent quality. I think it’s worth spending more to get something which will last. Before I set up Mabel Child, I always bought their clothing for my girls. We all have a budget to work with and I like to find the best in different brackets”.
I also love Uzma’s personal little additions to the site, in particular the more practical details of all the beautiful pieces: “When we receive a new collection, I write the descriptions and make sure I include information about sizing and washing instructions. As a mother, I want to know if it’s best to purchase a larger size and if it can be popped in the washing machine or if I’ll need to hand-wash it”.

Any current best sellers/favourites? “Maileg tulle dresses are incredibly popular! All little girls will feel like a princess! It’s important to have fun with clothing and enjoy what you wear. For this season, the As We Grow pocket dress (I’ve already earmarked this for Tabitha. SC) is our most popular item. It’s a classic dress which will last. We also stock a small selection of toys and the Maileg toys are best biggest seller. The Fanny & Alexander range are also popular. I’ll be restocking for Christmas!”

Tabitha has this pretty Aymara jumper, and this gorgeous coat (I want it in my size!!) from Les Coyotes des Paris. They are probably two of the most worn pieces in her wardrobe right now. Both from Mabel Child. And both currently on sale! She also has the Maileg tulle ballet style dress (spotted at ShopUp last summer, and later bought for a Christmas present).
