Here’s a date for your diaries: Thursday 8th September (yes, this Thursday!). Trust me you will want to be in on this. It’s another one of H&M’s genius kids’ collections, and possibly one of my favourites so far. I’ve been desperate to share it with you since the first time I clapped eyes on it, way back when in April. I was on an appointment at the H&M press office, pulling things for one of my Stella stories in Ibiza. Anyway, the PR gave me a sneak peek of a few of the pieces. I instantly fell in love with the peach coloured (sounds so wrong, but trust me, so right…) quilted velvet coat (6) and the folkloric tiered, frilled white cotton dress (1). Just divine.
In a nutshell, the collection is a world of fashion fantasy, filled with folklore inspiration. How gorgeous does that sound? Influences came from stories such as Alice in Wonderland and the Swedish tales of John Bauer, with plenty of embellishment and prints. Folkloric influences run throughout the collection, with key styles including an embroidered lace jacket with matching flared skirt; a black velvet cape with gold embroidery; billowing sleeved smocks and a poncho-style blouse. Illustrations add kooky character to garments, with lynx prints and fun horse patterns on knitted sets. Think a cool mash-up of pretty, cool, romantic, dandy, rock-and-roll and folk. That covers most of my favourite fashion elements right there! Oh, and let’s not forget the beyond cute, charming, and not to mention whimsical accessories, including party kits (including cups, plates and napkins), embroidered animal masks, crowns, a mini guitar (8), cowwboy boots, and even a velvet hobby horse (2). I definitely need that hobby horse!!
The collection hits (selected) stores (and the H&M website) on Thursday. I literally cannot wait.
