Tweedy

I have decided I couldn’t not do a post on tweed jackets/blazers, seeing as mine is one of my most worn pieces in my wardrobe so far this Autumn (dare I say it, it’s even overtaken my faithful army jacket…). So what’s going on? I actually didn’t even realise I was wearing it so much – it was completely subconscious. It just seems to go with everything I want to wear right now – jeans (blue, black, grey, but it would look great with white too…), khaki trousers, jumpsuits, dresses, even over my stuffy ‘gardening’ dungarees – everything. My tweed jacket is a rather old Margaret Howell one, that I first spotted in her catwalk show (look 1), and instantly became obsessed with it. At the end of the season, the pr very kindly gave me it to me, as she knew how much I loved it. I couldn’t have been happier. And have treasured it ever since. And worn it SO much. But this Autumn? More than ever.
Oh, and don’t panic, a coat edit is coming soon. A little late? Possibly. But then, in London at least, it’s been so mild, I’ve barely worn a coat yet this Winter. Which leads me right back to the merits of the tweed jacket again. Go for an oversized style, or size up (the trick to to make sure the shoulders are still in the right place – you want to avoid looking like Tom Hanks in the final scene of Big…), so that it’s a little slouchy, and when it does decide to get colder, you still have room to add a knit/layers. Oh, and pockets are SUCH a bonus if you can get those in the mix.
These are my favourites out there at the moment. Some are more ‘tweedy’ than others – I also like the checked versions too, although they won’t be as warm of course.

ps: just a quick beauty tip before I go. I have it on VERY good authority that if you’re going to buy one new thing for your makeup bag, make it this. It’s next on my shopping list. Apparently it’s amazing.
