Make Believe

Is there anything sweeter than catching children in imaginary play? My two girls particularly love acting out made-up scenarios, so earlier this year I decided to create a dressing up box, filled with pretty costumes and accessories. While a few years ago there was a distinct lack of options for dress-up that weren’t made of polyester, or Disney-themed, nowadays you can find an array of gorgeous, beautifully made pieces designed to spark children’s imaginations. Top of my list is Tutu du Monde. The Australian label’s embellished designs are what little girls’ dreams are made of. Meri Meri is my other go-to for gorgeous costumes. I bought their swan and flamingo outfits earlier in the year (then reluctantly hid them away for Christmas). Another favourite is Fable Heart. The girls have sequinned crowns and wands from this small British label and Violet desperately wants one of their pom-pom trimmed capes after seeing her cousin in hers. They also recently collaborated with lifestyle label Coco and Wolf on a lovely Liberty-print collection. I also like Numero 74 for fairy wings and Mimi and Lula for fun bags and headbands. Below are a few other pieces I am thinking of adding to the dress-up box. And seeing as Halloween is just around the corner there are a few ‘spooky’ pieces too. Oh and I have to confess that we do have a few Disney themed costumes in the box – unfortunately there is no escaping Frozen!

ps: Alex & Alexa currently has some great reductions on Tutu du Monde. Definitely worth a peek…
