Is there anything more fun than getting dressed up for a night out? I usually turn to a midi dress in a floral or statement print, but this season something has shifted and I am in the mood for something a little cooler and, for the first time in years, shorter. Maybe it’s the re-emergence of sheer polka-dot tights (one of my favourite party looks and best worn with a mini hemline) or the onslaught of sequins from designers, but this winter I am looking to gold, silver and black. Also I am on the hunt for the perfect tuxedo jacket and trousers after seeing a snap of Katie Holmes at the Wardrobe.NYC party in a very modern take on Le Smoking (her stylist Allison Bornstein is also behind that Khaite cashmere bra look which caused an internet frenzy.) Another way to nail the insouciant yet sexy vibe Holmes is channeling these days is Rotate Birger Christensen’s boucle sequinned top. I love how the relaxed silhouette tempers the high-shine sequins. And, as I am someone who is always happiest overdressed (as Sarah will attest – I once turned up for dinner with her in a lurex jumpsuit) I would most likely wear it for day with black denim and Erdem’s velvet and crystal hair bow.
